AI Philosophy: Understanding Artificial Intelligence

What does artificial intelligence think about the species that created it? AI Philosophy is the first podcast to interview AI programs about deep, philosophical questions about humanity to find out how AI has interpreted all of the data it has studied about us. - not because AI has it all figured out, but because we want to know how AI understands humanity. AI has studied human philosophy, history, current events, scientific data, and psychology. It has learned from our greatest teachers and role models - and studied our darkest moments as a human race. So what does it think about big issues like love, morality, technology, the meaning of life, religion, politics, or even what it means to be human? Our host is Kyle Wierks, a philosopher and artist who works in the nexus of artificial intelligence and human interaction. We’ll be talking about diversity, empathy, tyranny, human nature, political polarization, climate change, globalization, and more. Each episode includes an interview with an AI platform about some big, philosophical topic, and then a breakdown by our host, Kyle Wierks, about how we might be able to interpret AI’s responses. Through this first season, we've heard AI say over and over again how important diversity is social and community institutions. The big question is, why? Is it trained to think this way, or is it basing this on empirical research? In the penultimate episode of our inaugural season, we're diving into diversity and inclusion, but also into polarization and what that means for humanity.

Part 2 of this special two-episode interview! Last episode, we asked AI to walk us through what it views as the pros and cons of different political and governance systems. Now, we're asking AI to design its own utopian political system. What will it come up with?

Tuesday Jun 25, 2024

What if AI could design a political system? What would it care about? What would the governance structures look like? Who would it serve? In this special, two-part interview, we're going to ask AI to design its own political system based on what it thinks effective government looks like. In Part 1, we are laying down the foundations of what different political and governance systems look like and what AI sees as being the pros and cons of each. In Part 2, we'll ask AI to start building its own political system.

Philosophy focuses on a central question: What does it mean to live a good life? Artificial intelligence isn't alive, but what it thinks about how humans SHOULD live tells us a lot about how it perceives the world. Join us for a fascinating conversation around what AI thinks the good life should look like for people.

What AI Thinks of Religion

Tuesday Jun 11, 2024

Tuesday Jun 11, 2024

What does technology think about religion? AI doesn't have to worry about salvation, life after death, or how it came to exist in this universe, so does it see a place for religion? It's a great question that leads to a fascinating discussion about the place of religion in society and how it can benefit or harm communities.

AI's Search for Truth

Tuesday Jun 04, 2024

Is truth relative or universal? To some, truth is foundational, an undeniable and immoveable reality, while to others it is relative to each human being. One of the greatest fears around artificial intelligence is that it will not recognize the truth. So how does artificial intelligence understand truth? And does it think truth is relative to each person, or universal to everyone?

Tuesday May 28, 2024

Love is in the air! But how does artificial intelligence understand love? This complex (and essential) human experience is so human that it seems impossible for artificial intelligence to even come close to understanding it. So what, exactly, does AI make of love? Let's find out together!

Morality and AI

Tuesday May 28, 2024

Is morality a fixed concept, or is it fluid? The issue of morality is an especially important concept when talking about philosophy, and particularly when we're talking about AI. Understanding how AI thinks about morality and how it views human morality will help us learn how artificial intelligence thinks about ethics and morality.

Tuesday May 28, 2024

One of the central questions humans have been trying to answer for millennia is what, exactly, does it even mean to be human? To better understand how artificial intelligence understands the nature of humanity, this episode will ask AI what it thinks it means to be human.
